Have you ever thought about going to school for auto body repair? If not, you may be missing out on a rewarding and fun job. According to Ron Wiederholt, the teacher of a new class that teaches auto body repair at Northwest Technical School, students are not stuck behind a desk or shuffling papers around all day. “What’s so great about this type of work,” he said, “is that you’re not working on an assembly line, doing the same thing everyday [sic].” He went on to say that students “face a new project every day.”
Wiederholt’s students see everything from total losses to fender benders and no two days are ever the same and the students are always busy with a project. Adults can also take the class. Currently, there is a 63 year old man taking the class with the students because he wants to learn how to restore damaged vehicles as a hobby.
One of the most important projects for the students is restoring Wiederholt’s muscle car. Some of the more advanced students have that as one of their projects and they plan on having it done by the end of the school year. The students have already rebuilt a military vehicle that volunteer firefighters now use throughout the community.
Wiederholt knows what he is talking about when it comes to auto body repair. He owned his own collision repair shop for about 10 years. He keeps up with the latest technologies and techniques in the auto body repair field so he can help his students become the future of collision repair.
