From time to time, you may find that the insulation around your spark plug wires develops a break. This doesn’t happen very often, but it’s worth taking a look at your spark plug wires from time to time as part of your regular car maintenance.

If your wires are cracked, it can cause a spark to jump off of the wire and hit some metal under your car’s hood. This can also cause a weak spark in your engine’s cylinder, which will make the car run roughly and will negatively affect your gas mileage. In addition, it can cause damage to your catalytic converter.

To check your spark plug wires, start with your engine off. Look at the wire closely, starting at the end near the distributor. Work your way down to the end where the plug is. Bend the wire as you go to see if there are any cracks. You’ll also check the wires at the spark plug by pulling it off the plug and inspecting the end for any tears or cracks.

If your spark plug wires are damaged, it’s time to get new ones. You can install them yourself, or you can bring your car in to have them replaced. For more extensive vehicle repairs, visit your Lehigh Valley auto body shop today.

If you are having trouble starting your car then it may be time to change your spark plugs. Spark plugs should be changed every 30,000 miles, so they are easy to forget about. Changing your spark plugs will require a spark plug gapping tool, a 3/8 ratchet, and possibly a ratchet extender if your spark plugs are difficult to reach. Make sure your car is off and completely cool before changing the plugs.

1. Locate the spark plugs on your engine. Keep in mind if your vehicle has a V-shaped engine then there will be spark plugs on both sides of the engine. You will see thick wires attached to the plugs – these are the spark plug wires.

2. Remove the spark plug wire by finding the rubber boot close to the plug and pulling. Pull only from the boot – pulling anywhere else on the wire could cause it to break.

3. Once the wire is removed, blow any debris that my be around the spark plug so that is does not fall in to the cylinder after the plug has been removed. Using the ratchet, turn the spark plug in a counter-clockwise direction until it comes out.

4. Each car has different specifications as to what kind of spark plugs they use. Make sure you have purchased the right spark plugs for your model. Remove the new spark plugs from the box and use the gapping tool to ensure they are gapped according to specifications.

5. Start by inserting the new plug into the cylinder and hand tighten. If there is any resistance, remove the plug and try again. This will avoid cross-threading.

6. Tighten the spark plug fully using your ratchet, and replace the spark plug wire. You will normally hear or feel a soft popping sound when the wire is fully attached.

7. Start your vehicle and make sure the engine is running. If not, check the wire connections again.

For larger vehicle issues and full collision repair, stop by your local Easton auto body repair shop today.

When you take your vehicle in to have it serviced, you have to be extremely careful to avoid scams. While most auto body repair and collision centers are honest, there are some that are out to get you. Fortunately, there are some things you can do to avoid auto repair scams.

First of all, you should ask to look at the auto body work that was performed. Ask the auto body shop to show you what part of the car was worked on, and where the new part is located, if there is one. You can also ask to see the parts that the shop replaced. In many states, as a matter of fact, the vehicle body shop is required by law to save any parts that they replaced and show them to you if you ask.

Make certain to get a receipt that shows specifically the work that your mechanic did to your car. A receipt is essential if you wind up needing to challenge the repairs somewhere down the line.

Of course, the best way for you to avoid auto repair scams is to take your vehicle to a reliable Bethlehem collision repair service. Set up your appointment today, and make sure you get the highest quality auto repairs available.

Repairing bumper collision damage can be an easy task or a difficult one depending on the nature and seriousness of your collision. Damage can often be repaired simply by buffing the damage out if it is a mere scratch or scruff.

If another car scrapes your and leaves a scratch on your bumper, take a clean rag and run it over the damage to see if it removes easily. If so then scrub it vigorously with the dry cloth until the scrape mark comes off. Then usually just takes a few minutes.

If the scrape or scruff mark doesn’t remove with buffing then you might to resort to other measures.

The most serious bumper collision damage might require a new bumper. If this is the case then you’ll have to remove the old bumper completely and replace it with a new bumper. First, you’ll have to locate a bumper of the same make and model of vehicle as yours. They are not all interchangeable. If you have an older vehicle then that might be a challenge. Sometimes, vehicle parts have to be ordered specially and that could cost you a little time.

Bumper collision repair is very common as many accidents are rear enders, which means that one vehicle has front bumper damage while the other has rear bumper damage. The first step to repairing your bumper is to see your insurance company and an auto body specialist for a quote.

When it comes to your vehicle, nothing is more important than keeping up on maintenance and dealing with any auto body problems as they come up.

In order to take the best care of your car, truck, or SUV there are some things you should keep in mind when you’re at the auto body shop or mechanic. First of all, don’t just randomly pick an auto body shop out of the phone book. Go with a certified collision center. Pick a mechanic that works on vehicles regularly. In this regard, a dealership auto body shop is often a safe bet.

You should also do some research on the mechanic. Ask around, to see if any other car owners have had experiences, good or bad, with a particular mechanic or auto body shop. Check with the better business bureau, as well, to see if there are complaints against the mechanic.

For the most reliable auto body repair, come and see us at our Allentown auto body shop. We’re dedicated to your satisfaction, and know what to do to keep your vehicle running at its best.

To restore your automobile’s body to a new condition requires the best products and craftsmanship. In truth, it’s a multi-step process that should only be done by a professional. If you think you can do your own auto body refinishing then read this first.

The first step to auto body refinishing is to locate the area that needs the work. Unless you are refinishing your entire automobile, you should remove any decals or other emblems for the area that you will be working on. Next, you need to clean the area thoroughly with soap and water.

You need to apply masking tape or some other material over adjacent areas of your vehicle’s body so that the work you do on the area needing attention doesn’t spill over.

Remove any rusted metal from the area. Yes, cut it. It needs to come off so that it doesn’t spread. Next, sandblast the area to ensure all the rust is gone.

After you have removed rusted metal you’ll need to patch the area. Use 22-18 guage metal and weld or torch it into place. Be careful that you don’t set the car on fire. If you’ve never used a torch or welder before then you might ought to leave this to the professionals.

If the body is damaged then you should probably replace that part of the body rather than repair it. Apply putty or fiberglass where necessary to repair any body damage then sand it smooth. After you sanded the area smooth, apply your primer.

Block the primer and smooth it out. Use 400 or 500 grit sandpaper and sand until the gloss is out.

Next, wash the area to remove sanding dust and other contaminants. Then blow it dry and wipe the area clean. Be sure to mask the adjacent areas of your vehicle and spray on your topcoat of paint.

Auto body refinishing is very detailed work. If you do it improperly or leave a step out you could end up with a very ugly car. Imperfections will be noticeable.

When you look for a collision center to assist you in restoring your car’s body damage due to an accident or normal wear and tear, what do you look for? We suggest you look for the proper certification. To us, that means I-CAR certification.

I-CAR is an industry association that trains collision repair consultants and offers certifications so that you can verify credentials. Since 1979, I-CAR has been providing collision repair training and is a name that you can trust.

Vinart Collision Center recommends I-CAR training because it is deliverable online, but it is also affordable. Individuals seeking to enter the collision repair industry must have some experience or skill in identifying damage and know how to repair structural damage. Because automobiles have become so technical in their designs and structural architecture, anyone who is responsible for repairing a vehicle to make it road ready again should be tried and tested before they are allowed to repair the parts that are responsible for people’s on road safety. We take collision repair that seriously.

When you are looking for a trustworthy collision center, be sure to find one that requires certification of its employees. Vinart Collision Center is looking out for your road safety.

DuPont has been in business for more than 200 years. Started in 1802, the company has come to be known as much for its scientific innovations as for its customer satisfaction initiatives. It truly is a world class corporation.

Since 1910 DuPont has been a leader in servicing the automotive industry. From coated fabrics for rag tops to sponsorship of NASCARs star racer Jeff Gordon, we all have come to rely on DuPont’s experience and skill in an ever-growing industry. It’s because of the DuPont reputation that Vinart Collision Center is able to provide cosmetic repair using world class products.

From bumper paint damage to curb scrapes on wheel covers, DuPont products are notorious for restoring automobiles to their original pristine glimmer. In many cases you can’t even tell a repair kit was applied.

Just to illustrate how DuPont cosmetic repair products can remove blemishes on any part of your automobile’s interior or exterior, consider that yellowing and minor scratches on your head light covers can be removed and your headlamps restored to their almost new condition in just a couple of hours. DuPont can even remove rust due to normal driving and weather wear.

DuPont provides paints, plastic repair products, vinyl conditioners, refrigerants and electronics to body shops and collision centers like Vinart. It’s because of DuPont that we can focus on the finer details of making your car beautiful again.

When you need a touch up or cosmetic repair performed on your car, don’t just settle for any old paint job. Ask for the best name in the automotive repair industry. Ask for DuPont.

We are on the cusp of spring and the wintry driving conditions are just about over. But there is always that one last snowfall that catches us by surprise and wreaks havoc on our morning commutes and daily activities. Many auto accidents happen during these last few weeks of winter and auto body repair shops continue to stay busy. But what do you do if your car insurance company refuses to pay some of the costs that you feel they should pay? Here are some tips and suggestions to help you through the situation.

Do Not Expect the KBB Price
Auto insurance companies do not always go by the Kelley Blue Book price or even the value that the National Association of Automobile Dealers provide when determining your car’s value. They often have their own software and values that they use based on a variety of factors when determining how much to pay for covered repairs and expenses.

Keep Records
One of the reasons insurance companies refuse to pay the KBB or any other recognized value for your vehicle is because they assume it is worth less than those figures since you probably did not maintain your vehicle properly. Make sure you keep all your maintenance records for any type of procedure done on your vehicle so you can show these figures to your auto insurance company if they try to pay less than what you think the damage is worth.

Get Gap Insurance
Gap insurance pays the difference between how much the insurance company actually pays out and the actual amount of the damage. This is often an inexpensive policy and a great way to cover yourself in case something like this happens.

Filing an auto insurance claim may seem dreadful at first, but it is actually your right to do so after paying your premiums for all those years. However, there are some things you should consider before making that phone call to your insurance company and some proper steps to follow if you decide to file that claim.

1.	Decide if you should file the claim. When you call your insurance company simply to ask a question about filing a claim, your question is often recorded in your file for future reference. This can be a ding on your insurance report and it can cause your rates to go up whether the accident is your fault or not. If you can pay for the damage without causing financial hardship to yourself, it is better to pay for it without ever contacting your insurance company.
2.	Document everything about the damage. Make sure you have a written record of when and where the accident happened and the reason for it. A police report is ideal. Also, if it is possible, ask witnesses who are willing to speak with your insurance representative if needed.
3.	File your claim as soon as possible. Waiting too long to file your claim is a bad idea because details get fuzzy and your car could incur further damage that will not be covered if it is a result of not getting it fixed right away.
4.	Prepare to talk to the other driver’s insurance company. When disputes arise, the other driver’s insurance company may call you to ask about your version of the accident. This is not ordinary, but it does occur from time to time. Make sure you tell them exactly what happened and get the name of the agent you speak with for future reference.

These are just a few things to remember when filing an auto insurance claim. Whether you were involved in a major accident that requires a great deal of auto body repair or a minor fender bender, these tips will help you get through the process.
